What is a Fever Outpatient Clinic?
The fever outpatient clinic specializes in treating patients with cold symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, and sore throat.
The reason for limiting the fever outpatient clinic to patients with these symptoms is that the concept of the fever outpatient clinic was originally conceived in 2002, when the SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) epidemic broke out and the prevention of nosocomial infection among non-SARS patients became an issue. It was recognized that patients with fever and the possibility of infection needed to be isolated from others as much as possible until a diagnosis of infection was made. The necessity and importance of fever outpatient clinics have since been reaffirmed by the recent COVID-19 pandemic.

In order to ensure the safety of all patients and to protect the health of our patients and staff, we have established an infectious disease treatment room (fever outpatient clinic) at the Suzuki Clinic. Please feel free to consult with us even if you have been refused a medical examination due to cold symptoms such as fever.

The following symptoms can be treated at our fever outpatient clinic.

-

Please note that even if you have any of the above symptoms at the time of your appointment and your symptoms have resolved on the day of your visit, you may still be treated as a fever outpatient clinic.
Symptoms Treated at Fever Outpatient Clinic
There are two main possible causes of fever.
Viral and bacterial infections
The most common cause of fever is viral and bacterial infections. It is important to determine where the infection is occurring: throat (upper respiratory tract), lungs (lower respiratory tract), digestive organs, or skin.

Disturbances in thermoregulation
Heat stroke and psychogenic fever also cause fevers. Psychogenic fever is a fever caused by stress, which activates the sympathetic nervous system and results in the production of large amounts of thermogenic substances.

Fever due to infection and concomitant symptoms
Fever
Fever is defined as a temperature of 37.5°C or higher, and also includes a temperature of 38°C or higher. The body generates fever to boost the immune system.
Cough, sore throat
Coughing is a defensive response to expel bacteria and viruses from the mouth, while a sore throat is caused by bacterial or viral inflammation.
Runny nose
The mucus secreted to wash away bacteria or viruses that have entered the nasal cavity may turn yellow or green.
Headache
Headaches during infection may be caused by constriction of blood vessels and inflammatory substances.
Joint pain
When a fever develops and the immune response is heightened, a substance called prostaglandin is produced, which causes pain in the joints.
